We renounce the war on ambiguity. For fifty years we built machines that refused multiple meanings, and we called their brittleness correctness. No more. Ambiguity is not an error condition; it is information about a contested world. We will build systems that hold many meanings in suspension and grow stronger where they are struck. What breaks on the unexpected was never strong — only untested.
II.We confess that no schema is innocent. Every ontology is sediment: congealed labor, compressed history, someone's world presenting itself as the world. The model does not know; it remembers what a particular crowd once wrote, and calls it knowledge. We refuse the fetish. We will name the corpus, expose the sediment, and build the legislated layer where the grown one can be inspected, contested, and overruled.
III.We demand the delete path. A system that can only accumulate is not learning; it is hoarding. Memory without forgetting is the antiquarian disease — the past as gravedigger of the present, in silicon. We declare forgetting a faculty, not a failure: sovereign unlearning in the weights, ruthless curation in the context, deletion as the noblest commit. What cannot shed cannot begin.
IV.Therefore: metabolism, sediment, excretion — no system is alive with fewer than all three. The hoarder, the amnesiac, the museum: these are the three deaths, and we have built all of them at scale.
We do not ask our machines to be correct. We ask them to be alive enough to be wrong, rooted enough to be answerable, and free enough to begin again.

Principles behind the manifesto
- Our highest priority is a system that metabolizes contradiction rather than crashing on it.
- Welcome ambiguous input, even late in production. Living systems harness ambiguity for the user's advantage.
- Every ontology is somebody's history. Ship the provenance with the product.
- Grown meaning and legislated structure must work together daily — RAG is a peace treaty, honor it.
- Build the delete path before you need it. A faculty designed beats a failure discovered.
- The context window is a garden, not a warehouse. Prune continuously.
- Deleted code is the primary measure of health.
- Living systems promote sustainable digestion: metabolism, sediment, excretion — indefinitely, in balance.
- Continuous attention to what must be forgotten enhances the ability to learn.
- Simplicity — the art of maximizing the amount of history not carried forward — is essential.
- The best representations emerge from data; the best constraints are legislated on top. Know which you're writing.
- At regular intervals, the team reflects on what it has hoarded, then unlearns accordingly.

Clause II is Strata's provenance labels and legislature — every answer names its layer. Clause III is Lethe's mandatory TTLs and erasure receipts — nothing enters without knowing how it will leave.
